About

Intensitymaps.com is a free service that you can use to create, save and share intensity maps, visualizing any data with geographical releation.

These maps can be used in presentations and study material as well as in any kind of publication. It is particularily easy to add intensity-maps to blogs and homepages, using a simple html tag.

Two kind of visualization modes are possible:

  • Regions Mode: Highlight countries (and provinces):

  • Markers Mode: Highlight cities:

Intensitymaps.com allows different zoom levels such as the whole world, specific continents, as well as countries and their provinces, and is able to import data from spreadsheets.

The maps are in flash format, created by the Google Visualization API, and can be embedded on homepages and blogs with a small javascript or an iframe (for more infos, click on "Embed" when viewing a chart).

For presentations and other offline-use, we recommend you make a snapshot of the screen (or only the specific area). The best way we found to do this is with the screengrab! firefox plugin (we also have a short video tutorial). Other free screenshot tools include ZScreen for Windows or Gnome-screenshot for Linux.

Technology

We are using the Google Visualization API to create the charts, the frontend is driven with some jQuery and the backend is based on the Django Framework. And we use django-authopenid for the authentication via OpenID.

Bugs / Problems

We still have minor issues with Internet Explorer, not displaying the dialogs correctly and a few other problems that we are working on. For the best experience we recommend using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.
